In a newly-published survey, the marcoms agency WPP ranks China's Top 50 brands. Despite being truly enormous and valuable companies in their home markets, few of the 50 have any resonance as far as western consumers are concerned - although China's most valuable brand, China Mobile, is certainly known and respected by the telecoms community, worldwide. An erstwhile senior executive at China Mobile has been sentenced to death for bribery and corruption. However, the sentence is suspended for two years to give 53 year-old Zhang Chunjiang, (who confessed to his crimes) the chance to show "proper contrition". If he proves himself to be sufficiently abject and remorseful the death sentence will be commuted to life imprisonment. Martyn Warwick reports. (0)
