Capacity of 40 Gigabits/Second Delays Need for Costly Network Infrastructure Investment

Comverse today announced a new ultra-high capacity configuration for its Mobile Internet HUB platform to manage today’s booming mobile data traffic growth without the immediate need to build out network infrastructure.

With a throughput of up to 40 gigabits per second, the Comverse Mobile Internet HUB handles tens of thousands of Web transactions per second, or hundreds of thousands of multiple data streams, yet requires only a single cabinet of front-end servers.

“With such applications as video streaming and file sharing driving up data consumption, operators today are challenged to meet skyrocketing traffic demands,” said Gabriel Matsliach, President of Products and Operations at Comverse, the world's leading supplier of software and systems enabling value-added messaging and content services, converged billing and active customer management, and IP communications.

“By better using existing resources,” Matsliach said, “Comverse’s ultra-high capacity solution allows operators to delay expensive capital outlays and lower operating costs, while still knowing they can deliver superior mobile broadband service long into the future.”

The Mobile Internet HUB’s ultra-high capacity is made possible by the optimized processing core, controlled by an accurate and efficient real-time smart Service Policy Manager, enhanced with fully integrated Deep Packet Inspection (DPI). The modular design of Mobile Internet HUB’s blade-based server technology also helps reduce cabling and power consumption.

By applying real-time identification and processing for multiple traffic layers, including layer-7 applications like Web browsing and video streaming, the Comverse Mobile Internet HUB effectively enforces traffic management and charging decisions at fast rates. Users enjoy consistent high-quality service, and operators benefit from dramatically improved network use and increased profitability.

“Mobile broadband traffic growth is already stretching network capacity and performance to the limits in many mature markets — and there’s plenty more to come,” added Kris Szaniawski, Principal Analyst at Informa Telecoms & Media.

“Global mobile traffic is already growing at around 50 percent annually and will continue to ramp up over the next few years,” Szaniawski said. “By 2014 the total amount of traffic being carried by mobile networks will top 18 exabytes.”

The Mobile Internet HUB, which meets all Network Equipment Building System (NEBS) criteria, is part of Comverse HUB Value-Added Services, spanning voice, messaging, mobile Internet and mobile advertising. Comverse HUB is a synergistic framework that enables service providers to maximize their business performance and augment their position in the market.
