There's a strong green/sustainability thread running through Mobile World Congress 2012 and one of the exhibitors is Carbon Diem whose application and service uses GPS and cell tower location information to permit smartphones to calculate a user's individual carbon footprint. Andreas tells Martyn Warwick that he expects eco-aware enterprises with their own sustainability targets will use Carbon Diem to measure the carbon footprints of their employees against national and international comparators. Carbon Diem is available across the whole of Europe and will soon expand to encompass North America.

I don't care what the reason anymore! If it doews not stop. I will throw away the danmn cell phone!

I couldn't agree with you more. We designed the system, from the outset so that the problem of what kind of transport someone is using, is solved on the handset.

Their employer can never know where they have been and nor should any third parties.

Privacy as you'll see from the second half of the interview was a key concern for us.
