RIM targets M2M for BlackBerry 10 licensing push

RIM CEO touts industries that could use new platform. By Phil Goldstein.

Research In Motion’s CEO Thorsten Heins said the company's BlackBerry 10 platform will soon be ready for licensing by other manufacturers, and he touted machine-to-machine applications as a likely avenue.

Heins said the software was going through final testing and the first BlackBerry 10 smartphones will arrive in the first quarter of next year.

I do not see the benefit of BB10 in support of M2M applications. I would think any existing M2M appliance would have to be specifically redesigned for this OS integration.

I further believe any redesigns for the industry going forward would be IP based and not subject to an OS platform.
