Its Mediaroom platform is now in about 23 per cent of deployed IPTV set-top boxes. By Jim Barthold
By mid-2012, Microsoft had its Mediaroom middleware in about 23 per cent of all deployed set-top boxes and that share “continues to grow”, according to ABI Research. It predicts that the IPTV market will grow from 80m households this year to 117m in 2017, fueled by Asia-Pacific players.
“With the exception of Cisco, who recently purchased NDS, the system integrator’s role in customer experience will likely decline over the next few years,” said Sam Rosen, ABI Research director for TV and video. “Instead, this role will be left to client-centric middleware companies with better user experience.”
