US smartphone shipments fell 5 per cent on an annualised basis in the second quarter according to Strategy Analytics, with Android losing ground to Apple's iOS. It says a volatile economy, maturing penetration of smartphones among contract mobile subscribers, and major operators tightening their upgrade policies were to blame.
