Japan’s NTT Docomo and South Korea’s KT are prepping a mobile payments service that will eventually enable users from both countries to make payments in the other.

The service makes use of near field communications (NFC) and, at least at first, will be available on Android mobile phones in the two countries.

Mobile wallet services of various kinds have been available in both countries for several years, but this is a first pop at building a regional or international arrangement.

NTT says it's going to submit the specifications to the various standards bodies to get the ball rolling on global standards for mobile money services.
