NTT DoCoMo, Japan's largest mobile phone carrier has stopped sales of Research In Motion's (RIM) BlackBerry Bold just one week after the company began selling the smartphone when 30 users complained that the device's keyboard heats up.

Japan's DoCoMo claims it has sold about 4,000 Bold handsets, but has ceased sales after over two dozen subscribers filed complaints saying the keyboard area gets extremely hot. "This issue appears to be specifically limited to the BlackBerry Bold devices sold in Japan since last week and sales of BlackBerry Bold devices in other countries are unaffected by this matter," the company said in a statement.

However, the Blackberry-maker need not worry because according to Avian Research, RIM is charging ahead in the smartphone race, particularly in the US.

The latest study shows that in the month of January 2009, the new Blackberry Curve beat Apple's iPhone in retail sales to top spot.
