Spammers target Twitter

As email filtering becomes more effective, spammers are now targeting Twitter, the popular social networking and micro-blogging service, to perpetuate their malicious activity.

According to IT security and control firm Sophos, Twitter, which has become a significant resource for news organisations, businesses, and politicians to get messages across to a wider community, may soon turn into another platform for unsolicited mail.

The security firm warns Twitter users to be "vigilant of suspicious accounts" that are being used to build and store databases of contacts in order to spread their spam.
