Whatever happens with Obama's presidency, one thing is certain: he'll be seen as the first national leader anywhere to really get to grips with the online world - mobile technology in particular - and use it aggressively. Not just through his election campaign, but while in office it looks like he (and his aids) intend to keep on texting, blogging and communicating until their fingers bleed.

Yes, there's already been a lot of hype about Obama and his texting, but sometimes, in the cool light of hindsight, the hype turns out to be justified after all - my guess is that 'hip, online Obama' is the real deal and politicos everywhere should watch and learn as he heads into his first term.

Whitehouse.gov, the presidential on-line mouthpiece, is an interesting mine of information and promises already (from 12:01 yesterday to be precise, when it flipped over to the new president).
