Enterprise 'super-femto' is on the way says report

Researcher ABI says it's identified an emerging technology category it calls the super-femtocell: an enterprise-grade device that's more manageable and does a better job than a residential femto but maintains its ease of use and self-installation capability not found in the old-fashioned picocell approach.

The new category will emerge over the next few years, according to ABI Research senior analyst Aditya Kaut. Super femtocells will combine the larger capacity of the picocell with the lower cost and ease of installation of the residential femtocell and the resulting market will grow from almost zero today to slightly more than 500,000 units in 2013.

ABI says a single super femtocell with 8 or 16 channels should meet the needs of SMEs with 50 or 100 employees.
