The Australian government's intention to introduce a mandatory Internet filtering regime has precipitated a little bit of a gold-rush, amongst Internet filtering companies there.

With $44.2 million of government money currently on the table to sweeten the snooping requirement, Internet filtering companies have already begun sales pitches to ISPs across Australia hoping to be the vendor of choice if the Federal Government implements its proposed regime (see - Strewth! Communications minister Stephen Conroy is expected to unveil a new Expressions of Interest document for filter suppliers imminently, and wants to begin live trials by the end of the year.
