Google has made a specific version of Google Talk, its instant messaging application, to run on Apple's iPhone. Of course to the hear the Google story it's the greatest thing since.. well, not sliced bread but perhaps sliced bread with the crusts taken off.

The application works from the Safari browser and users just have to navigate to their page and sign in and they're doing instant chat with access to all the contacts lists they've built up from their desktop computers (and if they're iPhone users, they probably have those).

The move has resulted in the usual rash of moans - what about security? Why does the Apple power conservation shut down sessions (annoyingly)? Why aren't other environments (likeNokia) supported?

But the move also serves to illustrate again how quickly commercial power in the mobile market is climbing "up the stack".
