Arun Sarin to step down at Vodafone: out while the going's good?

The Arun Sarin era at Vodafone is over. Sarin announced this morning that he would step down in July after five years at the helm. He is to hand over to Vittorio Colao, Vodafone's European boss.

Sarin's timing is good. Five years is a nice respectable period (almost looks like part of the life plan) in such a high-profile, high pressure job. Plus, he leaves on a high when things can only (probably) get worse.

Vodafone has developed nicely (although not spectacularly) under him. Through the recent period of contracting technology stock prices (and expectations) he's at least managed to increaseVodafone's capitalisation from £78 billion to £86 billion.
