T-Mobile last year quietly introduced Americans to the joys of fixed-mobile convergence (FMC).

Called Hotspot@home (see - T-Mobile dreams of being a US contender) the product offers a US$10 per line unlimited domestic VoIP service calling from mobile handsets or fixed-line home phones and its introduction has at least show-cased the advantages of FMC even if it didn't set the field on fire in comparison to the heat generated by, say, the iPhone.

In fact recent data from the research firm Instat suggests that FMC really works and a scant 8 per cent of subscribers go back to “separate fixed and mobile” services once they have experienced it. The researchers say 63 per cent of Americans that would happily switch to an FMC service if they even knew such a thing existed. In fact, more than 50 per cent would leave their triple-play service provide in order to join the FMC revolution.

There is a better option--Cellular Docking Stations. There is no need for an expensive and complicated FMC solution when you can just dock your existing cell phone and have home phone service from your cell phone. Use "MFC" instead. Mobile to Fixed Convergence supports all customers, not just those on broadband and the Phone Labs solutions support over 1300 different cell phone models in one device. CTIA indicates that 98% of households can get a cellular signal--now just put your cell phone in that spot and you have perfect service throughout your home. Connect the Dock-N-Talk to your home phone and now all home phones work off your cell phone. The FMC solutions still only get the signal to the cellular handset while the Dock-N-Talk gets the service to every home phone. Cost is about $150 one time, not $10 to $20 per month, plus special cell phone, router, broadband, etc. There is no comparision as the very happy Phone Labs customers know.
