ITU adds WiMAX to IMT-2000 standard roster

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on Friday announced a decision to include “WiMAX-derived” technology based on IEEE 802.16 into the framework of the International Mobile Telecommunications IMT-2000 set of standards, incorporating it as the sixth terrestrial IMT-2000 radio interface.
