US mobile users want better Internet access from their next handset

According to Mobile Market View, a new mobile consumer study conducted by the Kelsey Group and ConStat, almost 45 per cent of U.S. mobile phone users surveyed say a mobile phone with better Internet capability will be a key factor in their next handset purchase decision.

The study finds that just one in four mobile phone service subscribers currently opt for an Internet access plan. However, that is expected to rise.

The 500 mobile users surveyed in the Mobile Market View study revealed that the leading Internet applications are maps and local commercial searches.

One in ten respondents used their mobile phones to conduct Internet searches for products and local services in the past six months.
