Orange goes green – sort of

France Telecom's Orange mobile arm in the UK, ever mindful of its trendy credentials (much-missed founder Hans Snook is an afficionado of alternative medicine and an evangelist for colonic irrigation) has announced that just in time for the upcoming Glastonbury music festival, (Orange is the official "communications partner" at the event) it will be demonstrating a wind-powered mobile phone charger. Basically, Orange is going green, even if some others think it is going nuts.

The illustrious history of the Glastonbury Festival, along with that other famous harbinger of the Great English Summer, Wimbledon, shows that strong winds and driving rain can almost be guaranteed for the duration of the event, and perhaps that's why Orange has decided to launch there, secure in the knowledge that a storm measuring at least Force 10 on the Beaufort Scale will duly make its presence felt as soon as the first band strikes up its first chord. Interestingly, the Orange Mobile Wind Charger, was developed in collaboration with Professor Shashank Priya of the University of Texas in the US.
